In Men’s tennis over the weekend, top seeded Roger Federer and fifth seeded Robin Soderling both advanced in this year’s tournament. Tennis betting enthusiasts should remember that last year the two men faced off in the finals at Rolland Garros, with Federer claiming victory. This year, Soderling looks for redemption as he continues to cruise on the clay court in hopes of returning to the men’s final of the tournament. Federer and Soderling, remain as two of a small group of top seeds still in the tournament after the weekend as fourth seed Andy Murray led an exodus of high seeds to be eliminated. Federer has been the top ranked male tennis star for the last few years, and the king of the clay court at the French Open. However, if Soderling continues to climb the stages of the tournament, he may be able to overwhelm Federer at this year’s finals.

Over on the women’s side of the tournament, French Open betting fans are sure to be filled with disappointment as second overall seed Venus Williams was upset by a lower ranked seed on Sunday.  Williams a fan favorite and one of the premiere stars on the female circuit, was ranked second to sister Serena who still remains in the tournament. Another upset on the Sunday was returning veteran Justine Henin ranked 22nd, knocking off fellow star and 12th seed Maria Sharapova. With the victory, Henin and Serena Williams appear destined for an encounter in the quarter finals at this year’s tournament. In her match with Sharapova, Henin was the underdog because of her ranking, however, she proved that being away from tennis for two years, was not an issue in her victory. With Venus’s early round exit at Rolland Garros, and Henin’s victory over Sharapova, it seems that Venus sister Serena’s strongest competition will be Henin.
